China Adds 315 GW of Solar in 2025 | Good Climate News
China added 315 GW of solar in 2025, heralds PV Magazine. This figure is larger than the entire existing solar capacity of the United States and brings wind and solar’s share in China’s electricity generation mix to around 24%.
“With cumulative solar capacity now above 1 TW, China’s market is increasingly shaped by system integration challenges rather than pure build-out.”
2. Solar Recycling Facility Opens in Georgia
A 5 GW solar recycling facility has opened in the US state of Georgia, reports Electrek. Thousands of end-of-life solar panels are now being processed by Solarcycles’s giant facility each week.
“The recycling facility sits next to the site of SOLARCYCLE’s planned solar glass manufacturing plant, which is designed to turn recovered material back into new, domestically made solar glass.”
3. US EV Charging Network Grows 30% in 2025
The United States added 18,041 EV fast-charging ports in 2025, relays Canary Media. This figure expanded the overall network by 30%, and came despite significant policy headwinds.
“…the fastest growth in utilization occurred in Sunbelt states, including Arizona, Georgia, and Texas.”

4. Battery Storage Installations Jump 50% in 2025
Stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are taking off in a massive way, notes ESS News. A record 315 GWh of battery storage was added globally last year - a 50% increase on the year prior - helping to facilitate deeper penetration of low-carbon intermittent renewables like wind and solar.
“Grid-scale projects were the primary driver of growth, accounting for nearly 240 GWh of global installations.”
5. Rare Plant Thrives in Desert Solar Plant
A more ecologically sensitive installation process has led to nature and solar energy thriving together, explains Yale Environment 360. Instead of harming the Three-Corner Milkvetch, the Gemini Solar Project near Las Vegas has proven to be a haven for the threatened species - increasing its local population from 12 to 93.
“All told, ecovoltaics and agrivoltaics have the potential to bolster biodiversity and the food supply while generating clean electricity.”
📈 Chart of the Week
More electric vehicles are now sold in the European Union (EU) than petrol (gasoline) vehicles, according to an analysis by Carbon Brief. Electric still has a ways to go before catching hybrids or the combined sales of petrol and diesel cars. But sales of fully electric BEVs now make up 17.6% of sales in the EU.
